Silver Tee Golf & Virtual Gaming Centre Open to the Public

The owners of the all new Silver Tee Golf & Virtual Gaming Centre, Jim Lengyel and Theresa Lecours, are pleased to announce the opening of the new 7,800-square-foot Virtual Gaming Centre on December 26, 2014, from 9am until midnight.

The Virtual Gaming Centre features 12 golf and multi-sport simulators with the latest cutting edge technology for accuracy and enjoyment. Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy playing 80 of the world’s top golf courses. The multi-sport options, including football, hockey, baseball, soccer, zombie dodgeball, carnivals games and more, are perfect for families and unique to Essex County.

“We’re so pleased with these simulators,” says Jim Lengyel, co-owner. “They provide another choice for family fun, group events and fundraising opportunities in the Windsor - Essex area.”

“Sleighing Hunger” Concert December 21, 2014

In collaboration to help feed those in need, The S'Aints band, St. Clair College, Blackburn Radio and Caesars Windsor are teaming up for the biggest holiday Charity Concert in the city called “Sleighing Hunger”. It will feature big-name, local and world-renowned talents of The S’Aint’s on Sunday, December 21 at 8 pm in the Colosseum. Proceeds from concert tickets and an accompanying holiday CD to be released later this month will benefit The Downtown Mission, Unemployed Help Centre, Outreach for Hunger in Chatham as well as the St. Clair College Scholarships and Bursaries.

Jeff Burrows, one of the founding members of the S’Aint’s as well as drummer and songwriter for the award-winning band The Tea Party, said, “The band is absolutely ecstatic to be moving into a world-class venue. I’ve had the great opportunity to play thousands of stages around the world. This will give us the perfect platform to present our spectacular holiday concert, while raising funds and awareness for worthy and desperately needed cause.”

Tim Trombley, Director of Entertainment at Caesars Windsor, said, “On behalf of Caesars, we are thrilled to host a show featuring a group of incredible, local and global talents with the altruistic goal ofhelping those in need. It supports our company’s own Corporate Giving goal focused our local community. We are proud to provide an award-winning venue to showcase this concert and give their dedicated audience and supporters a world-class experience.”

The S’Aint’s is a philanthropic passion project created by musicians, St. Clair College and Blackburn Radio. All entities involved were looking for something entertaining and community oriented to offer the communities of Windsor Essex & Chatham-Kent. Music was the driving force that would bring them all together with a band formed by some of the finest players and personalities in the area who have made a name for themselves locally and worldwide. They include: Jody Raffoul, Jeff Burrows, Wes Buckley, David Cyrenne, Kelly “Mr. Chill” Hoppe, Kelly Authier and Garret Bielaniec. The project gave them the opportunity to record, collaborate and perform while helping the community and it's charitable service groups. They have had three back-to-back sellouts at the St. Clair Centre for Performing Arts in previous years.

Music lovers who have yet to experience this performance will soon discover a fabulously new holiday tradition for the entire family. Audiences will be treated to their favourite holiday songs, with a twist, performed with the energy and ‘grit’ of these rock n’ roll talents. Special guests include The Sinners choir and The Diplomats Drum and Bugle Corps.

Ron Seguin, Vice President of Global Education and Training Services at St. Clair College, said, “This is music with a purpose. It is an annual project that has become a Christmas tradition at St. Clair. The college family including students, staff and alumni, look forward to helping local families dealing with hunger.”

Blackburn Radio generously funds the costly production of the S’Aints CD, with proceeds again going to the cause. John Weese, Vice President of Operations said, “Our investment in this project not only makes it happen, but allows for proceeds from sales to go to the intended charities rather than production costs.” CDs will be available for sale on iTunes, online at www.sleighinghunger.com, St. Clair College campuses and Blackburn Stations Windsor and Chatham for $10 each.

 

Tickets for “Sleighing Hunger” are $20 for General Admission, $25 for Reserved and $100 for limited VIP (taxes included) and available at St. Clair College campuses, Caesars Windsor Box Office, Blackburn Station offices in Windsor and Chatham and the Chrysler Theatre Box Office.

Organizations Needed For Alzheimer "Coffee Break"

Over 70 Windsor-Essex Businesses and Organizations to Raise Funds for Local Alzheimer, Dementia Programs: 30 More Needed to Reach the Goal

 

Local businesses and organizations are set to raise funds for the local Alzheimer Society. Over 70 have committed to host a Coffee Break or give coffee cup cutouts in exchange for donations to the charitable institution.

 

This year’s Coffee Break hosts include Bulk Barn, FreshCo, Green Shield, Seasons Retirement Communities, Centreline, National Bank of Canada, Chartwell Retirement Residences, Rafih Autogroup, and many more.

 

However, the Alzheimer Society needs 30 more Coffee Break locations to reach its 2014 target.

 

Coffee Break is an annual fundraising activity by the Alzheimer Society. Running from September to December, it raises a significant amount of funds for dementia services and programs in the community.

 

All monies raised through Coffee Break will help fund local services and programs by the Alzheimer Society, which includes: education and information sessions; support groups for daughters, spouses, and other caregivers; Day Away Program; and, in-home respite care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

 

“It’s wonderful to be supported by our local entrepreneurs, who realize the value of providing for the growing number of people diagnosed with dementia in our community,” said Sally Bennett-Olczak, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County.

 

This year, Colonial Coffee, a Windsor-based coffee roasting facility, will once again donate all the coffee and coffee-making supplies for the fundraising activity.

Almost 6,000 individuals in Windsor and Essex have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. The number will double within one generation, if nothing is done about it today.

 

To date, there is no known cause and no known cure for dementia. However, it’s possible to alleviate the impact of dementia on those who have it, their family members, and the community.

 

In 2013, local Coffee Break hosts raised $30,000 for dementia programs in Windsor and Essex. The Alzheimer Society hopes to raise even more this time around.

w.a.v.e.s Festival Sept. 26 & 27, 2014

w.a.v.e.s Festival 2014 Celebrates Windsor’s Artists, Visions, Energies and Sculptures

 

Ground-breaking new festival creates waves in art and emerging technology.

Windsor’s Artists, Visions, Energies and Sculptures (w.a.v.e.s.) is a brand new two-day festival connecting communities through waves of art, culture and technology in the Windsor Sculpture Park during Culture Days, September 26-27, 2014.

Hosted by the City of Windsor’s Cultural Affairs Department in partnership with the Arts Council of Windsor & Region, WEtech Alliance, Hackforge Windsor, Harvesting the FAM, The Art Gallery of Windsor and Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island, the festival will showcase local and visiting artists who will present their innovative wave-length creations from 4 p.m.to 11 p.m. each day.

Projects were selected through an open call to local, emerging and national acts inviting individuals and organizations to be inspired by the theme of “waves” in sound, light, movement or otherwise. The application asked for “the unexpected” and over 20 projects have been selected to animate the park throughout the day and illuminate the night, including solar and kinetic-powered installations.

A special extension of Harvesting the FAM will provide stage entertainment to festival goers throughout the day.  Harvesting The FAM is Windsor’s largest independent inter-arts festival, designed for the promotion and development of film, fashion, artistic and musical talents. Each night at 10 p.m., special performances will capture the audience in mesmerizing audiovisual performances from Kero & Annie Hall on Friday and The Noise Border Ensemble on Saturday.

 

Community workshops hosted by Hackforge Windsor will provide participants with the tools and training to build their own bike light display for a chance to light up the trail of the Battagello RiverWalk. Walk the path to hear the beats from the Motor City Junk-Kit, a drum-kit made from recycled car parts. Interact with Walkerville Art Studio’s Invisible Poets as they free-style spoken word, and create Words on Water with the Windsor Youth Centre as they bring a larger-than-life set of poetry tiles to play with. Bring your smart phones to explore the cockpit of the Windsor Lancaster FM212 Bomber with Ellis Digital, or explore the world around you with smart phone microscopes and the University of Windsor’s Let’s Talk Science.  Bring an appetite for the Windsor Eats Truckin’ Food Rally in Assumption Park.  After the sunsets, prepare to see the sculpture park light up like never before.
