Bikes & Beer Cycling Tour - Returns for Leukemia on May 25, 2013

Dust off your bikes because it’s time for the WindsorEats annual Bikes & Beer Cycling Tour - Returns for Leukemia!

WindsorEats is hosting their annual Bikes & Beer Cycling Tour - Returns for Leukemia  on May 25th 2013. The cycling tour will stop at three local Windsor establishments: Walkerville Brewery, Motor Burger, and Rock Bottom Bar & Grill. The starting location will be The Beer Store on Walker Rd and Ypres.

Returns for Leukemia Bottle Drive is part of a month long effort to raise money for Returns for Leukemia, a fundraiser held each May by United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 12R24 in partnership with The Beer Store to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).  On the weekend of May 25 & 26, 2013, customers are invited to donate all or a portion of their empty bottles (or cash), with 100% of the proceeds going directly to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. Participants of Bikes and Beers are also encouraged to bring along their empties on the day of the ride to donate to the Returns For Leukemia Bottle Drive.

"We're very excited that this fundraiser has become an annual tradition, raising thousands of dollars for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada," says Adriano Ciotoli, co-owner of WindsorEats. "It provides people the opportunity to give to a great cause all while having a good time."

Each location will host a brewer and participants will be provided with beer tastings and appetizers. This year the ride will be visiting Rock Bottom Grill, Motor Burger and Walkerville Brewery and includes sponsor Steam Whistle.

The Bikes & Beers Cycling Tour includes a support guide, beer tastings, appetizers at restaurants and tours through some of the city’s historic neighbourhoods and landmarks.

Tickets are $45 compared to the traditional price of $60 each with proceeds going to Returns for Leukemia. Please note, tickets sales end two days prior to the event day. Tickets are limited and sell quickly.

Keep up to date on the event through Facebook (WindsorEats), Twitter (@WindsorEats), Google+ (+WindsorEats) or at www.WindsorEats.com

Zumba For A Great Cause --May 9, 2013

“Train a Nurse in Ghana” Fundraiser

Get Fit & Support a Great Cause

Thursday, May 9, 2013

The Windsor-Essex Chapter of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) have organized a fitness fundraiser to support the education of a nursing student in Ghana, Africa.  This Zumba® Fitness class will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 6:30pm to 8 pm at the WFCU Centre’s Sports Gym.

Inspired by the ongoing humanitarian work in Ghana by the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918), the executive of RNAO Windsor-Essex Chapter felt that this was a worthwhile initiative to support the nursing profession in a developing country. The $3,600 they hope to raise will provide a full 3-year scholarship to train one nurse who will be able to provide direct care to patients and individuals in a rural, resource poor area where one doctor serves 85,000 people.

The public are invited to join in the fun by participating in the Zumba® Fitness class themselves or by sponsoring a friend or colleague who is. All pledges are welcome and receipts for donations greater than $20 will be issued through the Rotary Club of Windsor Foundation.  Pledges can be made in person at the event, by email to info@rotary1918.com or by calling 519-253-6382.
